Nervous patients

We don’t just understand your fears, we’re expertly trained to talk you through them and get you the treatment you need.

If you’ve been putting off dental treatment or are suffering in pain because of a fear of visiting the Dentist, then it’s time to give the team at Warragul Dental Care a call.

If you’re visiting us as a nervous patient rest assured we’ll take everything at a pace that you’re comfortable with and won’t start any treatment until you’re relaxed and ready for it.

In fact, the first thing we’ll do is just talk. We’ll chat about your dental history, your pain, your concerns and anything else you fancy. We’ll introduce you to the team and make sure you’re comfortable in your surroundings before we start talking about treatment.

After our initial chat we might find some cues to help you relax, such as music, or a movie. We’re happy to work with anything that will help make your visit stress-free so don’t be afraid to mention things that might seem a bit ‘different’!

We’re specially trained to help you relax

Dr Anand has undertaken special training in treating nervous patients, so he understands your nerves and how best to create a stress-free environment.

The best thing about Dr Anand is that he explains things in plain English and not dental techy talk, so you’ll understand everything that’s going to happen. Dr Anand firmly believes there’s no such thing as a silly question – you can ask him, or any of the team, anything that’s on your mind (he’s pretty good at trivia too). We’ve also got great team of dental assistants who are always on hand to give an encouraging pat and a comforting smile throughout your treatment.

All the creature comforts

We know sitting in the Dentist can sometimes make the nerves a little worse, that’s why we make Warragul Dental Care as warm and welcoming as possible.

Our patient lounge is decorated with our favourite photos from around the world and we’ve created a great kids’ corner to keep the little ones busy. We’re happy to make you a tea or coffee before your appointment and you’re welcome to use our private bathroom before your treatment starts.

All our treatment rooms have TV’s with full access to Netflix so you can choose your favourite show or documentary to help you drift away. We also have headphones for you to listen to Spotify, a podcast, a bit of Dolly Parton, or whatever takes your fancy! And finally, we’ll offer you one of our warm, snuggly blankets and neck pillows to make you feel warm and comfortable.

Happy gas

At Warragul Dental Care we offer nitrous oxide also known as ‘happy gas’ to help you relax. And yes – it’s the same gas they give to women in labour.

This is a great solution to help you relax you for treatment. We administer the treatment by popping a mask over your nose and ask you breath. It’s as simple as that. After a few minutes you’ll start to feel the calming effects. During the treatment you might feel light-headed, euphoric, sleepy and have a sensation of floating. These are all normal side effects and will completely disappear once the gas is removed. You just need to be able to breath comfortably through your nose.

Shortly after treatment you’ll be able to leave your appointment and resume all duties as normal, including driving, going back to work and looking after the kids.

We’ve got a great little blog about happy gas here if you’d like to know more.

IV sedation or 'Twilight Dentistry'

We’re proud to be one of the only practices in the area to offer IV sedation to our patients.

IV sedation is also known as ‘twilight dentistry’. It’s a relaxing drug that has almost immediate effects and makes you feel so deeply relaxed that, most of the time, you won’t remember anything that happened during the treatment.

This is a great alternative to going into hospital for a general anesthetic. With IV sedation you can be treated here at Warragul Dental Care and go straight home afterwards with no waiting around and no trips to the hospital. We’ll give you some advice to follow if you have IV sedation, such as making sure you have someone to drive you home afterwards and look after you for the rest of the day. You won’t be able to go straight back to work, but the effects will completely disappear by the following day. We’ll talk you through everything you need to know before we book you in for treatment.

General anaesthetic

If you’re really nervous about getting dental work we can carry out your treatment under a full general anaesthetic, where you’ll be completely asleep.

This will take place in a hospital with your usual friendly Dentist from Warragul Dental Care doing the treatment. You’ll need to bring someone to help you get home after the treatment, but we can chat about all that, and any other questions you might have, at your appointment.

We're here to listen

If you’re nervous about dental work, or would like some more information about laughing gas, IV sedation or a general anaesthetic, just let the team know when you call us. We’ll put aside time in your appointment to talk and take the stress out of your treatment.

Just call the team today on 5623 5588 to find out more, or drop in and see us.
