We know a first visit can throw up a jumble of emotions for you and your child, that’s why we offer your little one their first visit absolutely free. We don’t want you to worry about your child not opening their mouth for checks (this is completely normal!). We just want to make sure the first appointment is fun with a capital F.

We like to see kids as young as possible, so we can start them on a journey to healthy teeth and gums. The earlier we teach children about great oral health, the earlier they learn about the importance of daily cleaning and eating the right foods.

Caring for your child’s teeth starts when your child is a baby. We usually see your little one  when their first tooth emerges or soon after their first birthday. Of course, we’re always happy to see your child before then if you have any concerns.

We can advise you on infant oral care, such as thumb-sucking and using a dummy. We’ll also keep a very close eye on baby teeth as they’re important markers for your child’s adult teeth. Many people think baby teeth aren’t as important because they fall out but they need to be cared for as well as adult teeth.

At Warragul Dental Care, all the braces and orthodontic work for children is done right here in the clinic. That means there’s no need to go to another clinic for extra appointments. The WDC team that you know and trust will advise, fit and treat your child for traditional braces and Invisalign clear aligners.

Between the ages of 7 and 12 we’ll start assessing the development of your child’s jawbone and start orthodontic treatment where necessary. The treatment will help your child’s teeth fit into their mouth neatly and fix any problems caused by tongue thrusting and thumb sucking.

It will also improve issues such as difficulties breathing caused by swollen adenoids or tonsils, and bite problems. This stage can take between 9 and 18 months and may be all your child needs. Once this initial treatment is complete, we look at whether further braces are required.

Some children will need traditional braces, whereas other children can choose between bracket braces or the more modern Invisalign, which is becoming a very popular option for children.

We welcome visits from children aged 0-17 years old who are eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS). If your child is covered, you’ll be able to claim up to $1,052 over a 2-year period to cover:

• Check-ups
• X-rays
• Cleaning
• Fillings
• Extractions
• ..and more!

You don’t need to apply for CDBS, if your child is eligible you should receive a letter in the post from the Department of Human Services. We can’t help you with queries around eligibility but we’re happy to explain what services we can offer and what’s covered under the CDBS. We can’t wait to see you!
