Hi, Dr. Anand here from Warragul Dental Care.
Receding gums: what causes them, and can they grow back?
Now, one of the most common causes is aggressive brushing. Brushing is great, but if you’re scrubbing your gums like you’re cleaning a tile floor, you could actually be wearing them away. If that’s the case, sometimes gum grafting can help restore lost tissue.
Another cause? Braces. When we move teeth into a new position, especially the lower front teeth, it can sometimes thin out the gum tissue. The good news? This is one of the most predictable areas for gum grafting, and in many cases, it can be corrected.
So, if you’ve noticed widespread gum recession, it’s essential to get it checked, as it could be an early sign of gum disease. Don’t wait to have it assessed. Simply give us a call on 03 8899 6937 or send us a DM to organise your assessment.
