Hi, Dr. Anand here from Warragul Dental Care.
Ever had that sudden, zinging pain when you’re enjoying a cold coffee on a sunny arvo or sharing a glass of wine with friends? That’s tooth sensitivity, and while it might feel like a minor nuisance, it often points to something more going on.
One common culprit is the gum recession. Over time, as our gums gently recede, the sensitive root of your tooth becomes exposed. This can make your teeth react sharply to cold, hot, or even sweet treats. In these cases, we may look at ways to encourage gum regrowth or apply a protective coating to shield the area.
Then there’s tooth decay. A small cavity can expose the nerve inside your tooth, making it extra sensitive. The solution here is straightforward: we fix the cavity with a filling before it has a chance to worsen.
Missing teeth can add to the problem, too. When you’re left with fewer teeth sharing the bite force, the remaining ones take on extra stress – which can lead to sensitivity or even fractures. And of course, as gum disease progresses, it can loosen teeth, making them more sensitive and occasionally uncomfortable.
So if you’ve been experiencing tooth sensitivity, it’s important not to brush it aside. The right solution depends on the cause, and we’re here to help you figure it out. Simply give us a call on 03 8899 6937 or send us a DM to book an appointment. Let’s work together to keep your smile comfortable and healthy.
