Our five most-asked questions about Dental Implants

If you’re thinking about investing in dental implants or All-on-X you’ve probably got a ton of questions on the tip of your tongue. After all, it isn’t a quick decision and the impact can be life-changing in the most fabulous way imaginable.

To help, we asked Dr Anand to share his top five most-asked questions about dental implants.

As always, if you’ve got more questions, we’re at the end of the phone.

1. Do dental implants hurt?

No, having your implants fitted shouldn’t hurt at all…if you choose the right Cosmetic Dentist that is (and we just happen to know one right here in Warragul!).

When you have your dental implants fitted you might feel some pressure but there should never be any pain. Once the implants are in place, they’ll feel completely natural and you won’t even know they’re there.

As with any surgery, your mouth will feel sore as it heals, especially with All-on-X. This is completely normal and our Dental team will explain what to expect and when to give us a call.

If you’re nervous about the dental implants or want to ask any questions, you can always chat to one of our friendly team here in Warragul.

A little bit of background to dental implants

There are two stages to fitting your dental implant. First, one of our experienced dental team will fit the ‘anchor’ into your jaw which will hold your new tooth. The second stage is fitting your beautiful, custom-made tooth or teeth on the anchor. This will be completed a couple of months after we’ve placed your anchor as we need to let the area fully heal to make it strong and secure.

During both of these procedures, you’ll be numbed or, if you prefer, you can opt for general anaesthetic and be completely asleep, which we do right here in our practice. Our patients love not having to travel to another clinic or wait for a hospital spot for sleep dentistry. We make it all super easy.

We’ll walk you through any nerves

At Dentélle, we have a treasure trove of comfort options to make you feel comfortable and relaxed, including unlimited Netflix, noise-cancelling headphones, blankets, Bruce, our dental therapy dog, and our fabulous team of course!

Dr Anand and the incredibly experienced Dr Matt fit 100’s of dental implants every year and are really at the top of their game at this intricate procedure.

2. How much do dental implants cost?

We’ll say it upfront, dental implants and All-on-X are big financial investment. You can expect the investment for one implant to be between $27,500 and $32,500 per jaw.

Just remember, dental implant treatment is not the same as investing in a car upgrade or a new sofa, this is an investment that will change your life.

With dental implants you’ll have more confidence, create beautiful photos with your kids and grandkids, laugh without covering your face, and order any food you want when you eat out! Dental implants have an uplifting effect on you and everyone around you.

We know that for many patients a large investment can cause guilt. ‘Do I deserve it?’, ‘I should be spending money on my family, not me’. We want you to know that investing in dental implants is not selfish, it’s a chance to live your life to the full.

We make it as easy as possible to pay for your treatment, including offering a range of flexible payment choices to spread the cost.

The cheaper alternatives

You’re probably aware that there are cheaper alternatives to replace teeth, such as Dentures. However, Dentures are:

  • not anchored into your jaw,
  • do not let you eat whatever you want,
  • do not look natural,
  • need to be removed at night and,
  • most importantly, they do not prevent jaw loss.

That’s right, jaw loss will continue to happen with Dentures, which means your face will collapse which makes you look older than you are. Also, over time your jaw will continue to change shape meaning you’ll need new Dentures to be made and re-fitted.

If you’d like to discuss the difference between implants, All-on-X, and Dentures, you can book a Cosmetic Smile Consultation with our experienced team.

3. How long will dental implants last?

Dental implants and All-on-X are a long-term treatment that can last for decades and we know from studies that implants have over 96% success rates after 10 years.  It all depends on how well you care for your implants.

You still need to look after your implants as you would your natural teeth. That means that you still need to brush them meticulously and attend regular examinations for an assessment of your implants and cleaning around your implants.

If you’ve got any questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch with one of the team.

4. Can I chew anything with dental implants?

Yes you most certainly can! The world is your oyster with dental implants. No more choosing meals based on what your dentures can cope with – if you want a chewy toffee pudding, then go for it. If you fancy that pork crackling, then crack on!

That’s the great thing about dental implants, they give you your life back so you don’t have to worry about a thing. You just treat your implants the same as you would your normal teeth. Not only will they make you look younger, you’ll feel younger too.

Nothing can hold you back!

5. Will a dental implant look like a natural tooth?

If you choose Dentélle and our fantastic team for your implant, then absolutely YES!

Our experienced Cosmetic team  – Dr Anand, Dr Matt, Dr Mira and Dr Ghadir – have an incredible eye for detail when it comes to creating your new teeth. They put a huge emphasis on finessing the details to make sure you get the result you want.

Our team work closely with Chris, a master ceramist in Melbourne, to find the correct shade, size and shape of tooth, so it fits perfectly into your existing smile. This is trickier than it sounds as a shade that’s only a fraction incorrect can have a huge impact.

Dental implants are a form of artwork and we take our time to make sure they’re perfect.
